Why do golf bags have 14 slots plus slot for putter?

If we can only legally carry 14 clubs during a round, why do they make golf bags with 14 slots for clubs and a side container for the putter?

many ameuters like to carry more than one driver, or maybe even like a 7 or 9 wood, it really makes no difference unless your ina tournament how many clubs you have unless your playling with people who are rule consious

The side slot/container is usually for the umbrella. You may also carry a ball retriever for balls hit in bushes or lakes.

It's nice to have a putter slot away from the rest just to protect it.

The extra slot is for an umbrella, however amateur players normally take out more clubs as there is no rule for non competitive golf.

The extra slot is not for the Umbrella, bags also have an umbrella holder.
Nor is it for an additional 15th club.
It is actually there for those players who play a "belly putter" or one longer. It sits in the exterior holder so that none of the clubs in the bag are belting into the exposed shaft.
That just means that one of the inside 14 slots remains empty
